Compact humidifiers designed to improve humidity for indoor plants

Humidifiers for Houseplants

A plant humidifier can help raise relative humidity around tropical houseplants when indoor air becomes unusually dry. Whether a humidifier is useful depends on the plant species, room size, temperature, airflow and the humidity your space already has.

When a Humidifier May Help

Humidity-sensitive plants such as some ferns, Calathea, Maranta, tropical aroids and orchids may benefit when room humidity is consistently below their preferred range. Crispy edges or poor growth can have several causes, however, so measure conditions instead of assuming humidity is always the problem.

Choosing a Humidifier for Plants

  • Small plant groupings: compact units can be useful near a shelf or desk when the room is not extremely large.
  • Larger rooms: compare tank capacity, output and manufacturer-rated coverage rather than relying on plant count alone.
  • Monitoring: use a hygrometer to see whether the humidifier is actually changing relative humidity where the plants are growing.
  • Cleaning: follow the manufacturer’s cleaning and water recommendations to reduce mineral buildup and keep the unit operating properly.
