Dracaena or Sansevieria?

Many plants traditionally sold as Sansevieria are now classified within the genus Dracaena. Both names are still widely used in the plant trade, so you may see familiar varieties described as Snake Plant, Sansevieria or Dracaena.

Snake Plant Care Basics

• Light: Many Snake Plants tolerate lower light, but growth is generally stronger with medium to bright indirect light. Avoid assuming that low-light tolerance means no light is needed.
• Water: Allow the potting mix to dry substantially between waterings. Watering frequency depends on light, pot size, season and growing conditions.
• Soil: Use a well-draining mix and a container with appropriate drainage to reduce prolonged wetness around the roots.
• Temperature: Keep plants away from cold drafts and abrupt temperature extremes.
