How to Care for Vining Philodendron
Light: Most vining Philodendrons grow best in bright, indirect light. They can tolerate lower light conditions, but growth will slow and variegated varieties may lose some of their color contrast. Avoid prolonged direct afternoon sun.
Water: Allow the top inch or two of soil to dry before watering. Water thoroughly and allow excess to drain completely. Vining Philodendrons are more tolerant of occasional dryness than of consistently wet soil.
Soil and drainage: Use a loose, well-draining indoor potting mix. A container with drainage holes is strongly recommended. Adding perlite or orchid bark improves aeration and reduces the risk of root rot.
Display options: Train vines to climb a moss pole or trellis for larger leaves, or allow them to trail from a shelf, hanging basket, or elevated planter. Many varieties can also be propagated easily from stem cuttings.
