A Complete Guide to Philodendron Care - Ed's Plant Shop

Philodendrons are one of the easiest and prettiest plants to grow indoors. We love them because they add a little foliage flavor to just about any space and have very little requirements to stay happy.

As houseplants, philodendrons have large, green, thick, and glossy. They do a fabulous job in your home as an air plant. Philodendrons can grow up to six feet with wide areas depending on their species, and the size of the container planted in.

There are two types of Philodendrons:

Vining: The vining philodendron requires support to climb up such as a hanging basket or trellis due to having ariel roots. There are many vining varieties of philodendron such as Swiss cheese plant.

Non-vining: Non-vining philodendron grows upright and works best with foliage plants in plant containers as its having fast-growing capacity.

The best time is spring to plant philodendrons but you can start houseplants at any time of the year.

How To care Philodendron:

As we know philodendron needs low maintenance nature but still, you must take care of your plant to be healthy.

Light: For an indoor plant, place the philodendron plant by a window where you get indirect sunlight. More lights get your plant leaves to turn yellow. Take care your plant gets moderate lights, not too much or less.

Soil: Philodendron needs loose soil potting with a good drainage hole at the bottom of the pot. It is recommended to replace the soil every year.

Water: Philodendron needs moderate moisture in the soil. Soil moisture checking list regularly must be there for proper watering. Thus, water your plant every one to two weeks to avoid the plant getting yellow leaves. These plants cannot handle overwatering or underwatering. It leads to the plant getting yellow leaves. Always give less water during winter time to avoid over-watering.

Temperature and Humidity: Philodendrons like humidity so prevent them from direct air conditioning vents indoors. To avoid dryness, you can spray water through a spray bottle to moisten the plant.

Fertilizer: Every month, there is a requirement for fertilizer for getting your plant enough calcium and magnesium. Regular fertilizing your plant keeps healthy and long-lasting.

Pruning and Propagation: Pruning helps to lead to new growth of your plant and keeps your plant healthy. Remove dead leaves that help to grow new leaves. For more details about How To Prune Your Plant.

For propagation, you may require garden clippers to clip off the stem up to six inches. Propagation helps to maintain the shape and size of the plant.
