Description

A holiday flower classic and the most popular potted plant in the United States, the Euphorbia Pulcherrima or 'Poinsettia' is native to the tropical regions of Mexico and Central America. They are known for their beautiful foliage made up of bracts, which resemble petals, and have tiny yellow flowers in their centers called cyathia. In addition to the traditional bright red cultivar, Poinsettia can come in variety of colors, ranging from creamy white to pink. Contrary to popular belief, Poinsettia are easy to care for and can be used in a many ways after the holiday season has ended. Keep the plant warm and the soil evenly moist yet not wet or water-logged. Avoid cold drafts and wrap in paper or plastic if you take it outside on a chilly fall or winter day. The most common issue we find with this plant is falling leaves due to root rot, so be sure to allow for proper drainage when watering. Keep those things in mind and the Poinsettia will stick with you well past this holiday season!
