Philodendron Pink Princess is one of the easiest houseplants to grow. It does well in humid environments with warm temperatures ranging between 50°F – 85°F and a source of bright indirect light. Keep your Philodendron Pink Princess healthy by growing it in rich, well-drained soil, fertilizing monthly and watering when the top of the soil becomes dry.

With all the rage on social media platforms, the Pink Princess Philodendron has become one of the hottest houseplants to have. Plant influencers share photos of theirs, but have you wondered how much work actually goes into keeping this unique, boutique houseplant fabulous? The great news is that anyone can grow a Pink Princess Philodendron, from an experienced plant fan to a novice!

Let’s walk through a few need-to-know tips to assure the best growth of your Pink Princess Philodendron.

Coloration

Did you know the Pink Princess is unique because the variegation is steady due to its natural pink color. This natural variegation occurs without any effort, whereas Pink Congo is the result of chemicals injected into leaves to pink but after a couple of months it will turn back green. This permanent coloration gives it a reliable leaf appearance, no matter the light exposure, and without requiring pigmentation or alteration.

Light

The Pink Princess Philodendron is a jungle plant, so it requires bright indirect sunlight. The leaves are sensitive to intense sun, meaning it will thrive in a morning sun location. Just keep in mind that afternoon sunlight can cause leaf scald and ruin your gorgeous foliage. The ideal place is an Eastern facing window where it is protected from those intense sun rays.

Soil

These plants grow best with loose and well-draining soil that is rich in organic matter. Mix potting soil, perlite, and orchid bark in equal proportion for moist soil. This mixture can hold moisture well, but can still drain thoroughly. Philodendrons in general do not enjoy their roots being too soggy, so avoid any soil mix that retains excessive moisture such as any indoor potting soil with water-retetive crystals.

Watering

Watering can vary depending on your location and average humidity. In most locations watering your Pink Princess Philodendron once a week is sufficient. To avoid soggy soil, you can use a soil meter to keep it at a slightly less-than-moist level.

Temperature

Pink Princess Philodendrons will enjoy most climate-controlled homes, with the sweet spot being right around 75 degrees. Use caution if you live in a cold climate, as the ambient temperature around windows can drop substantially in the evenings, causing your plant to recoil in chilliness. You may move your plant away from cold, drafty windows in the winter months to avoid potential damage.

Humidity

The ideal range of humidity is between 60 to 80%, although indoor humidity level is usually not that high. To fulfill humidity needs, you may use a humidifier to maintain the humidity level that makes your Pink Princess Philodendron happiest. The easiest way to check your indoor humidity is with an indoor weather station. Remember, seasonal change can bring humidity change, so be aware of your humidity at all times, at it can change daily.

Drooping leaves and dark green leaf edges are common problems in Philodendron Pink Princess. At this point, you must check the humidity level. Take a necessary steps to protect it from humidity.

Fertilizer

Spring and summer are heavy growing seasons for the Pink Princess Philodendron.  Fertilize balanced liquid fertilizer every week or two (depending on the fertilizer you use) from spring to early fall, you can cease feeding going into fall and winter, since the plant goes dormant due to fewer daylight hours. For balanced fertilizer, you can use 5-5-5 or 10-10-10 NPK soil nutrition ratio.

Pruning

Spring is the best time to do any heavy pruning on your Pink Princess Philodendron. You can prune yellow or damaged leaves at any time of year, though. If you notice that your plant generates more pink and green leaves then you may prune the plant to produce more
