Description

Global Green Pothos – Easy-Care Variegated Trailing Houseplant

Add rich color and effortless greenery to your space with the Global Green Pothos (Epipremnum aureum ‘Global Green’). This distinctive pothos variety features glossy, heart-shaped leaves patterned with contrasting shades of medium and dark green. Unlike cream- or white-variegated pothos varieties, its green-on-green coloration creates a lush, layered appearance while allowing the plant to grow vigorously indoors.

Global Green Pothos is an excellent choice for beginners, experienced collectors, offices, apartments, and nearly any room that could use more greenery. Its long vines can trail gracefully from a shelf or hanging planter, or they can be trained to climb a moss pole, trellis, or wall-mounted plant support.

Adaptable, fast-growing, and forgiving of occasional missed waterings, this low-maintenance houseplant delivers plenty of visual impact without requiring complicated care.

Global Green Pothos Care

Light Requirements

Place your Global Green Pothos in bright, indirect light for the strongest growth and most noticeable leaf pattern. It can also adapt to medium or lower-light conditions, although growth may slow and the contrast between the two shades of green may become less pronounced.

  • Bright, filtered light supports fuller growth and stronger variegation
  • Avoid prolonged direct afternoon sun, which may scorch the leaves
  • Tolerates lower-light indoor spaces
  • Works well on shelves, desks, plant stands, and in hanging planters
  • Can be trained on a moss pole, trellis, or wall-mounted plant support

Watering

Water when the top 1–2 inches of soil feel dry. Water thoroughly until excess moisture drains from the bottom of the pot, then empty any water collected in the saucer or decorative planter.

Global Green Pothos is more tolerant of slightly dry soil than constantly wet conditions. Avoid watering on a rigid schedule, as indoor temperature, light, humidity, pot size, and season all affect how quickly the soil dries.

  • Allow the upper layer of soil to dry between waterings
  • Reduce watering during winter or periods of slower growth
  • Yellowing leaves may indicate excessive moisture
  • Curling or drooping leaves may indicate that the plant is thirsty

Soil and Drainage

Plant in a loose, well-draining indoor potting mix. A blend containing potting soil, perlite, and orchid bark can provide a helpful balance of moisture retention and airflow around the roots.

For best results, use a planter with drainage holes and never allow the roots to sit in standing water.

Humidity and Temperature

Average household humidity is generally suitable for Global Green Pothos, although moderate humidity can encourage more vigorous growth.

  • Preferred Humidity: Approximately 40–70%
  • Preferred Temperature: 65–85°F
  • Keep away from cold drafts, heating vents, and air-conditioning units
  • Avoid prolonged exposure to temperatures below 55°F

Fertilizing

Feed once every four to six weeks during spring and summer with a balanced liquid houseplant fertilizer diluted according to the product instructions. Reduce or discontinue feeding during fall and winter when growth naturally slows.

Avoid overfertilizing, as excess fertilizer salts may damage the roots or cause brown leaf tips.

Pruning and Training

Prune long or uneven vines just above a leaf node to maintain the desired shape and encourage fuller growth. Remove yellow, damaged, or aging leaves with clean scissors or pruning shears.

Allow the vines to trail for a cascading display, or attach them to a support to encourage climbing and potentially larger mature leaves.

Repotting

Repot approximately every 12–18 months, or when roots begin circling the inside of the pot, emerging from the drainage holes, or causing the soil to dry unusually quickly.

Choose a new container only 1–2 inches wider than the current pot to avoid surrounding the roots with too much wet soil.

How to Propagate Global Green Pothos

Global Green Pothos is easy to propagate from stem cuttings:

  1. Cut a healthy section of vine just below a node.
  2. Choose a cutting with at least one or two nodes and one healthy leaf.
  3. Remove any leaf that would sit below the water or soil line.
  4. Place the cutting in water, moist sphagnum moss, or a light potting mix.
  5. Keep it in a warm location with bright, indirect light.
  6. Transfer water-rooted cuttings to soil once several roots are approximately 2–3 inches long.

Several rooted cuttings can be planted together to create a fuller, bushier plant.

Common Global Green Pothos Questions

Is Global Green Pothos a low-light plant?

Global Green Pothos can tolerate lower-light conditions, but it will grow best in bright, indirect light. Lower light may result in slower growth, longer spaces between leaves, and less noticeable variegation.

Why is my Global Green Pothos losing its pattern?

Fading or less distinct variegation is often caused by insufficient light. Move the plant closer to a bright window while protecting it from intense direct sunlight.

Can Global Green Pothos grow in water?

Cuttings can root and grow in water for an extended period, but the water should be refreshed regularly. For stronger long-term growth, the rooted cutting can eventually be transferred to a well-draining potting mix.

Does Global Green Pothos climb?

Yes. Although it is commonly grown as a trailing plant, Global Green Pothos naturally climbs when provided with a moss pole, trellis, or other support.

Live Plants – Frequently Asked Questions

Shipping

What size plant will I receive?

The size shown on the product page refers to the approximate diameter of the nursery pot, not the plant’s total height or width. Plant height, fullness, leaf size, vine length, and growth pattern naturally vary by variety and individual plant.

Will my plant look exactly like the photographs?

Each live plant is naturally unique. The plant you receive will be the variety and pot size ordered, but its shape, coloration, leaf count, fullness, and maturity may differ from the example photographs. Seasonal growth, recent pruning, and natural variation may also affect its appearance.

Is the decorative pot included?

Unless the product listing specifically states otherwise, live plants arrive in a standard nursery grow pot. Decorative planters, baskets, saucers, stands, and other accessories are sold separately. Please review the product title and description to confirm what is included.

When will my plant ship or be delivered?

Please allow approximately 5–15 business days for processing and preparation. Five business days is the earliest end of the range, and many orders require most or all of the stated processing window.

Processing time is separate from carrier transit time. Local NYC delivery also requires preparation and does not automatically mean same-day or next-day service.

Orders may occasionally require additional time because of plant availability, order volume, weather, seasonal demand, or courier coordination. We will send an update when confirmed fulfillment, tracking, or delivery information becomes available.

How are live plants packaged?

Each live plant is inspected and packed according to its size, shape, and shipping needs. Soil and foliage may be secured to reduce movement during transit, and protective materials may be added when appropriate.

Temporary drooping, shifted soil, limited leaf loss, or minor cosmetic stress can occur while a plant adjusts after shipping. This does not necessarily mean the plant is unhealthy.

What should I do when my plant arrives?

Unpack the plant promptly and carefully remove all protective packaging. Place it in appropriate light and allow it time to adjust to its new environment.

Check the soil before watering. Do not water automatically upon arrival because the plant may already have adequate moisture. Avoid immediately fertilizing, heavily pruning, or repeatedly moving the plant while it acclimates.

Should I repot my plant immediately?

We generally recommend allowing a newly delivered plant time to acclimate before repotting unless there is an urgent plant-health reason to do so.

Repotting an eligible small plant during the first 15 days may void the Plant Health Guarantee because it can make the cause of decline difficult to determine.

What should I do if my plant arrives damaged?

Report shipping or delivery damage within 48 hours. Keep the plant and all packaging while the concern is being reviewed.

Please provide your order number, a photograph of the entire plant, close-up photographs of the concern, and photographs of the box and packaging when applicable.

Small plants in nursery pots measuring 8 inches and below may also qualify for our 15-Day Plant Health Guarantee. Large plants in nursery pots measuring 10 inches and above have a 48-hour inspection and reporting window.
